Greetings!

We are Broken Word, a high-energy collective of the nation's top performance poets and spoken word artists joined together for a common cause -- to breathe life back into poetry with the intensity of a great rock and roll show.

We are now booking our Fall 2003/Spring 2004 College Tour, and we'd love to perform at your university, high school, or slam venue.

Our show is an intense 90 minutes full of slam poetry, comedy, drama, politics, and -- of course -- the Haiku Death Match.

Broken Word arc welds the fearless pyrotechnic energy of performance poetry with the ferocious independence of punk rock and the rhythmic intensity of hip-hop, mixing equal parts pulsating verse, provocative stand-up comedy, and dramatic monologue.

Broken Word can also conduct engaging poetry workshops and a thrilling poetry slam that includes poets from your campus community along with the main show.

The members of Broken Word have been featured on PBS, HBO's Def Poetry and BET's The Way We Do It and have toured with Lollapalooza. They have appeared in The Washington Post, The New York Times, and 60 Minutes. Plus they have been National Poetry Slam Champions.

Broken Word is a NACA member organization that taps into the power of the poetry slam movement and brings it to your university!

Be sure to check out the MP3 recordings: they are solid examples of our work -- which is a deft blend of comedy, poetry, and monologue -- and the crowd response is phenomenal!

We would love to perform at your university, high school, or slam venue during our Fall 2003/Spring 2004 tour. We look forward to speaking with you further about dates and prices.

Sincerely,

Matthew John Conley -- (512) 912-0208
